# WhatsApp QR code

A WhatsApp QR code is a scannable code that opens a chat with a business, turning offline touchpoints like packaging, receipts, and store displays into WhatsApp conversations.

Under the hood, the code simply encodes a click-to-chat link, optionally with a pre-filled message. WhatsApp Business generates one natively, and any QR generator pointed at a wa.me URL produces the same result.

QR codes shine wherever a URL cannot be clicked: package inserts, shop windows, restaurant tables, event booths, flyers, and delivery notes. One scan replaces typing a number or searching for the brand.

Every scan that becomes a message opens a customer-initiated conversation and a chance to collect a proper opt-in. A different pre-filled first message per placement also tells the business which surface the customer came from.
