The WhatsApp Business API is built for automation. Instead of a human typing in an app, software connects to WhatsApp and handles notifications, customer support, and marketing campaigns through code or a platform interface.
It has no standalone app or interface of its own. Businesses access it either through the WhatsApp Cloud API hosted by Meta, or through a Business Solution Provider that layers a dashboard, automations, and analytics on top.
The API is what powers e-commerce use cases like abandoned cart recovery, order updates, and broadcast campaigns. Messaging is billed per conversation and most business-initiated messages require a pre-approved message template.
