Table of contents (8)
Shopify Plus costs $2,500 a month on a 1-year term or $2,300 a month on a 3-year term in the United States, according to the Shopify Help Center as of October 7, 2026. Those prices apply to standard setups and integrations: for more complex, higher-volume businesses, Shopify replaces them with a variable platform fee based on revenue and business model.
The subscription is one line of the budget. This guide goes through what Shopify publishes about the rest, on its Plus pricing page, its main pricing page and its Help Center, all read on October 7, 2026 with the prices shown to US stores: card rates and transaction fees, extra stores, the paid trial, the terms of the contract, and the point where Plus pays for itself compared with Advanced.
How much does Shopify Plus cost?
| Term | Price per month (US) | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| 3-year term | $2,300 | Standard setups and integrations |
| 1-year term | $2,500 | Standard setups and integrations |
| Complex, higher-volume businesses | Variable platform fee | Based on revenue and business model, quoted by Shopify's sales team |

Two details from the same Help Center page:
- The currency follows your billing country. The US dollar price applies to the United States and to any country without a supported local currency. Shopify publishes separate Plus prices in Canadian dollars, euros, British pounds, Japanese yen, Australian dollars and Indian rupees.
- The price is a starting point. On the main pricing page, the plan is listed as "Starts at $2,300 USD/mo", with no yearly price next to it.
For the plans below Plus, see our guide to Shopify pricing.
What is the Shopify Plus variable platform fee?
It is the pricing model for the largest accounts. Shopify's Plus pricing page puts it this way: the plan starts at $2,300 a month for standard setups and integrations on a 3-year term, or $2,500 a month on a 1-year term, and more complex, higher-volume businesses switch to a variable platform fee based on their revenue and business model. The Help Center adds that this fee differs for B2B and D2C companies.
Shopify does not publish a percentage, a revenue threshold or a cap for this fee on the pages we read: it sends you to its sales team. If your volume is high, ask for three things in writing before you sign: the percentage, the revenue it applies to (online, in-person, B2B), and any minimum or maximum.
What card rates and transaction fees apply on Shopify Plus?
Plus has the lowest payment rates of the four plans. Here are the rates displayed to US stores, next to Advanced:
| Fee | Advanced | Plus |
|---|---|---|
| Online standard card (Shopify Payments) | 2.5% + 30¢ | 2.25% + 30¢ |
| Online premium card | 3.1% + 30¢ | 2.95% + 30¢ |
| Online international card | + 1% | + 1% |
| In-person card | 2.4% + 10¢ | 2.3% + 10¢ |
| PayPal Wallet | Starting at 3.49% + 49¢ | Starting at 3.49% + 49¢ |
| Third-party transaction fee | 0.6% | 0.2% |
Source: Shopify pricing page, rates displayed to US stores, as of October 7, 2026. On its Plus pricing page, Shopify says card rates vary by country and invites you to ask sales for the current rates for your location.
Two setups, as described on the Plus pricing page:
- Shopify Payments as your primary gateway: you pay Shopify's online and in-person card rates, and orders processed through Shopify Payments aren't charged third-party transaction fees.
- A third-party processor as your primary gateway: you pay your processor's fees, plus 0.2% per transaction to Shopify.
Fictional example: on $1,000,000 of online standard card sales in a month, made of 10,000 orders of $100, Shopify Payments takes $25,500 on Plus (2.25% of $1,000,000, plus 10,000 × 30¢) and $28,000 on Advanced. With an external processor, the third-party transaction fee on the same volume is $2,000 on Plus and $6,000 on Advanced, before the processor's own fees.
What other costs should you plan for on Shopify Plus?
Shopify's answer on its Plus pricing page is short: no other platform costs, but custom development by a Shopify Plus Partner, one-time theme purchases and third-party apps are yours to budget. In practice, check these lines:
- Additional stores. Your main store and 9 expansion stores are included in the monthly platform fee. Each additional store costs $300 a month, or a revenue share across all stores. The contract covers one brand: several brands under the same company each need their own Plus contract.
- Themes. The Help Center specifies that each live expansion store needs its own theme license.
- Migration. Shopify doesn't charge you to migrate, but paid services are available, and the migration itself is your responsibility.
- In-person selling. The first 20 POS Pro locations are included. Beyond 20, the POS Pro cost is waived for your first 200 retail locations if Shopify Payments is your primary payment provider in store.
- Sales tax calculation. For a US store on Plus, Shopify Tax charges 0.25% on orders with calculated tax once the store passes $100,000 in sales, capped at $0.99 per order.
- Late payment capture. Plus allows extended authorization periods on certain cards, and a 1.75% additional charge applies when you capture after the standard 7-day period.
- Apps and marketing tools. Each one has its own pricing, often tied to your volume: our guide to Klaviyo pricing shows how that works for email and SMS.
For the app budget, our comparison of the best Shopify Plus apps sorts apps by need, from Shopify's own Flow and Launchpad to subscriptions, returns and messaging. It includes Kanal, the WhatsApp marketing and sales app for Shopify that we build.
How do the Shopify Plus contract and trial work?
- Term. Plus is sold on a 1-year or a 3-year term. Shopify's pricing page states that with a 1- or 3-year Plus subscription, you can cancel when your term commitment expires.
- Trial. Eligible merchants can start a Shopify Plus trial from Settings > Plan. It is a paid trial: $399 a month in the United States, for 1 to 2 months depending on your store status. It gives access to most Plus features. Expansion stores, staging stores, organization-level features and bot protection are not part of it.
- End of trial. If you take no action by the end of the trial, your store is automatically enrolled in a full Plus plan, with the term you selected during trial setup. To avoid that, downgrade from Settings > Plan before the trial ends, after reading what you lose: checkout app blocks, Plus B2B features, Launchpad events and Shopify Audiences, among others.
- Identity check. When you select Plus in the admin, Shopify asks you to verify your identity with a government-issued photo ID before the subscription is confirmed.

Beyond the table, the Help Center lists what is specific to Plus:
- Checkout: the Checkout Branding API and checkout extensions, with distinct flows for B2B and D2C customers in the same store.
- B2B: unlimited catalogs, direct catalog assignment to companies and locations, deposits and partial payments.
- Automation and custom logic: Launchpad for scheduled promotions, and custom apps built with Shopify Functions.
- Organization tools: custom user groups, unlimited staging stores and early-access test environments.
- Infrastructure: 1 TB of file storage per store, bot protection during flash sales and product launches, and Level 1 PCI DSS and SOC2 certification.
- Support: round-the-clock priority phone and chat support.
When does Shopify Plus pay for itself compared with Advanced?
Use the same calculation as for any upgrade:
Monthly sales needed to cover the upgrade = difference in monthly subscription ÷ difference in rate
With Advanced paid yearly at $299 a month and Plus at $2,300, the difference is $2,001 a month.
- With Shopify Payments, the online standard card rate falls from 2.5% to 2.25%, a difference of 0.25 points. On that rate alone, the two plans cost the same at $800,400 of card sales a month ($2,001 ÷ 0.25%).
- With an external processor, the third-party transaction fee falls from 0.6% to 0.2%, a difference of 0.4 points. The gap closes at $500,250 of sales a month ($2,001 ÷ 0.4%).
These are our own calculations from the US prices and rates read on October 7, 2026. They leave out premium, international and in-person rates, the 1-year price of $2,500 and any variable platform fee, so redo them with your own card mix and the quote you receive.
Below those volumes, Plus is a feature decision, not a fee decision. It makes sense when your checkout has to be customized, when you run several stores for different countries, when B2B needs more than 3 catalogs, or when your team has outgrown 15 staff accounts. If none of that applies yet, Advanced covers most brands. Our Shopify review looks at the platform as a whole.

Shopify Plus starts at $2,300 a month on a 3-year term, and the real bill depends on three things Shopify quotes case by case or by usage: whether you fall under the variable platform fee, the card rates for your country and volume, and the stores, apps and development you add. Get the quote in writing, redo the break-even calculation with your own numbers, and compare it with what Advanced already gives you.
Frequently asked questions
How much does Shopify Plus cost per month?
In the United States, Shopify Plus costs $2,500 a month on a 1-year term or $2,300 a month on a 3-year term, according to the Shopify Help Center and Shopify's Plus pricing page, both read on October 7, 2026. Those prices cover standard setups and integrations. Shopify adds that more complex, higher-volume businesses might pay a variable platform fee based on their revenue and business model instead.
Is Shopify Plus a contract?
Yes. Shopify Plus is sold on a 1-year or a 3-year term, and the monthly price depends on the term you pick. Shopify's pricing page states that with a 1- or 3-year Plus subscription, you can cancel when your term commitment expires. By comparison, Basic, Grow and Advanced are billed every 30 days or once a year, without a multi-year term.
What is the Shopify Plus variable platform fee?
It is the pricing that replaces the fixed monthly price for larger accounts. Shopify's Plus pricing page says that more complex, higher volume businesses switch to a variable platform fee based on their revenue and business model, and the Help Center adds that it differs for B2B and D2C. Shopify publishes no percentage or threshold: the number comes from its sales team.
What are the transaction fees on Shopify Plus?
With Shopify Payments, a US Plus store pays 2.25% + 30¢ per online standard card payment and 2.3% + 10¢ in person, with no third-party transaction fee on those orders, according to Shopify's US pricing page on October 7, 2026. With another payment processor as your primary gateway, you pay that processor's fees plus 0.2% per transaction to Shopify.
Can you try Shopify Plus before committing?
Eligible merchants can start a Plus trial from the Shopify admin. It is a paid trial at $399 a month in the United States, and it lasts 1 to 2 months depending on your store status, according to the Help Center on October 7, 2026. If you take no action before it ends, your store is automatically enrolled in a full Plus plan, with the term you selected during trial setup.
When is Shopify Plus worth it compared with Advanced?
Plus is worth pricing when you need something Advanced does not include: a fully customizable checkout, unlimited staff accounts, unlimited B2B catalogs, expansion stores or more than 10 inventory locations. On fees alone, the lower card rate covers the higher subscription at high volume: with Advanced paid yearly at $299, the gap of $2,001 a month equals 0.25% of $800,400 in monthly card sales, at the US prices read on October 7, 2026.
