Key takeaways

  1. On October 30, 2026, Zoko was rated 4.9 out of 5 from 466 reviews on the Shopify App Store: 430 five-star and 13 one-star.
  2. Plans start at $49.99 a month plus $0.015 per conversation. Custom flows, AI agents, Instagram and Meta's fees are separate lines, and Zoko's help center says the AI agents need your own OpenAI account.
  3. Zoko syncs your Shopify catalog to WhatsApp for buying in chat, which Kanal does not support. Kanal, our product, adds RCS and SMS from the Scale plan and native Klaviyo and Gorgias integrations, from €89 a month.

Our verdict: Zoko is a well-reviewed WhatsApp app for Shopify stores. On October 30, 2026, merchants rated it 4.9 out of 5 from 466 reviews on the Shopify App Store, and only 17 of those reviews gave three stars or fewer. Most of them praise its support, its Shopify flows and its shared inbox. Two things deserve a check before you install it: the bill, which adds several lines on top of the plan, and your market, since only 9 of the reviews come from US stores and WhatsApp does not currently deliver marketing templates to US numbers.

We build Kanal, a WhatsApp app for online stores that competes with Zoko on Shopify, so read this page knowing that. Everything about Zoko comes from its own pages and its Shopify App Store listing, and the Kanal section below says what Kanal does not do as well as what it does.

What is Zoko?

Zoko is a WhatsApp platform for Shopify brands, sold by Bourbon Science Inc. Its Shopify App Store listing, named Zoko WhatsApp Marketing & Chat, dates from December 8, 2020. Zoko says it serves more than 3,000 merchants, and its home page states that it is a Meta Business Partner, ISO 27001 compliant and GDPR compliant.

The product is centered on Shopify, although a billing article in its help center also has a path for stores on other platforms. The ZOKO app on Google Play (10K+ downloads) and ZOKO Dashboard on the App Store are the mobile apps of the same product. Neither listing showed a rating.

What does Zoko do?

Here is the product as Zoko describes it on its pricing page, home page and Shopify listing:

  • Shared inbox. Your team works from one WhatsApp number, with automatic chat distribution, quick replies, voice notes, WhatsApp calls and live translation.
  • Broadcasts. Bulk campaigns go to Shopify segments built on purchases, tags and activity, alongside click-to-WhatsApp ads, a chat widget and pop-up campaigns.
  • Flows. A no-code builder comes with 64+ ready-made playbooks. Eleven pre-built flows are included on every plan: abandoned checkout recovery, review collection, cash-on-delivery (COD) confirmation, COD-to-prepaid conversion, reorder reminders, product upsells and order notifications.
  • Catalog and buying in chat. Your Shopify catalog syncs to WhatsApp, so customers can browse and order without leaving the conversation.
  • AI agents. Three paid add-ons: Guru answers repeat questions, Wismo answers order tracking questions, and Sello takes orders and collects payment.
  • Other channels. Instagram and Facebook Messenger connect to the same tool. Its pricing page and Shopify listing name neither SMS nor RCS.

Zoko's pricing page says every plan has every feature and that volume is the only reason to move up. On Starter, the widget, pop-ups and catalog messages carry Zoko branding.

How much does Zoko cost?

Zoko starts at $49.99 a month in US dollars, with a 7-day free trial and no contract. There is no free plan.

Max needs a check: that day, the pricing page showed three plans and pointed brands above 500K messages a month to an Enterprise plan on quote, while the Shopify listing and the help center still showed Max.

Zoko counts a conversation as a 24-hour window, opened once your business's first message is delivered. The estimator on the pricing page counts each marketing, utility or authentication message as one conversation, and every 10 service messages as one. It rates Starter as the cheapest plan up to 2,000 conversations a month, Plus from 2,000 to 35,000, and Elite above that.

Two lines are easy to miss:

  • OpenAI. Zoko's help article on AI pricing says you must connect your own OpenAI account, that OpenAI bills the computing cost to you on top of Zoko's fees, and that the agents stop working if that balance runs out. Zoko's AI terms, updated September 27, 2026, describe the same arrangement for connected AI accounts. Neither the pricing page nor the Shopify listing mentioned it on October 30.
  • Calling. The pricing page's FAQ says Zoko charges nothing for WhatsApp calling on any plan. Its plan help articles instead list included minutes (500 on Starter, 1,000 on Plus, 2,000 on Elite) with a per-minute fee above them. Ask Zoko which is current if calling matters to you.

An example bill. This is our arithmetic from Zoko's published rates, on the estimator's starting values: 1,000 marketing messages, 1,000 utility messages, 2,500 service messages and 3 agents, which makes 2,250 conversations.

  • Starter: $49.99 + (2,250 × $0.015 = $33.75) = $83.74.
  • Plus: $79.99, since 2,250 conversations and 3 agents are included.
  • Plus with one custom flow and Wismo at 300 resolutions: $79.99 + $5.99 + $24.99 + (200 × $0.09 = $18.00) = $128.97.

Meta's fees and your OpenAI costs come on top of these totals.

Billing terms. Zoko's terms say a trial turns into a paid plan unless you cancel before it ends, and that Zoko can change its fees by posting new pricing or by email, from the next billing period after notice. Its refund policy, updated September 27, 2026, says fees are non-refundable once a billing period has started, with a few listed exceptions.

Zoko's reviews page on the Shopify App Store: overall rating of 4.9 from 466 reviews, with the count of reviews for each star Source: Zoko's reviews page on the Shopify App Store, read on October 30, 2026.

We read all 47 pages of reviews. Here is what the headline number does not show:

  • Where the stores are. 251 of the 466 reviews come from stores in India, 28 from the United Arab Emirates, 19 from South Africa, 18 from Mexico, 17 from Pakistan and 9 from the United States. This matches Zoko's own description of its customers, which lists WhatsApp-first markets such as India, Brazil and the Middle East.
  • When they were written. 280 reviews were left within the first three months of use, and 78 after about a year or more. The score says a lot about onboarding and early support, and less about long-term use.
  • How recent they are. 221 reviews are dated within the last 12 months: 211 five-star, 5 four-star, 2 three-star and 3 one-star. Shopify shows the edit date when a review has been edited.

What do Zoko reviews praise?

Shopify's AI-generated summary points to the Shopify integration, cart recovery, COD verification, segmented broadcasts, AI chatbots, the shared inbox and responsive support. In the reviews themselves, support comes up far more often than anything else.

"Great customer support. The Zoko team is quick to respond and always helpful."

Shopify App Store, 5 stars, October 29, 2026

That store had used the app for 16 days, and early reviews like this are common on the page. Beyond support, reviews come back to three points:

  • One tool in place of several. A store in Egypt (August 28, 2026) says Zoko took over cart recovery, COD confirmation, delivery updates and review requests, and cost less than its earlier setup.
  • Broadcasts on Shopify segments. A store (edited September 18, 2026) reports half the setup time and twice the results since Shopify segments arrived.
  • AI that saves time. A store in Saudi Arabia (4 stars, March 25, 2026) values the bots, and asks for more automated order taking because a local address requirement still needs a person.

What do Zoko reviews criticize?

Only 17 of the 466 reviews gave three stars or fewer, and several are old. They are still a useful list of what to check.

How the bill adds up. A store with about a year of use (1 star, September 19, 2026) says its plan price rose without notice and that conversation fees jumped after it downgraded. The second part fits the plan grid: 5,000 conversations carry no Zoko fee on Plus and $75 in fees on Starter. Another store (3 stars, edited September 18, 2026) warned of charges tied to flows, agents and conversation limits, then added that Zoko had updated its pricing page, and gave a star back. A one-star review from October 10, 2025 objects to a full month's charge after the trial, which is what the terms above describe. Reviews from 2024 mention entry prices of $4.99 and $34.99, which are not the prices Zoko shows today.

Flows and AI. A store with over a year of use (3 stars, edited January 14, 2026) says its flows became unreliable and that support declined. A store in Mexico with 10 days of use (1 star, December 6, 2025) found the AI narrower than advertised and the price high, while calling the support team responsive. Test the flows and agents you plan to rely on during the trial.

Your phone number. A few reviews are about losing the use of a number (1 star, August 20, 2025). The pricing FAQ explains why: you delete the WhatsApp account on that number first, and it cannot run in the WhatsApp phone app while it is on the API. You can go back by removing the API connection. Kanal has the same requirement: the number must not be tied to a WhatsApp app account.

Missing channels. A store (4 stars, November 14, 2025) stopped using Zoko over low delivery of marketing messages and the lack of call recording, and says it might return once email and other channels are added.

Can you use Zoko for US customers?

Partly, and the limit comes from Meta. Its documentation on marketing limits says marketing templates are not delivered to WhatsApp users with US numbers for now, and that a send attempt returns an error. This applies to every provider, Zoko and Kanal included. Order updates and replies to customers who write first are separate categories.

If much of your list has US numbers, you need another channel for campaigns and cart reminders. Kanal includes SMS and RCS from the Scale plan. Zoko's pricing page and Shopify listing name neither.

Who is Zoko for?

Zoko is worth a look if:

  • you sell on Shopify and want customers to browse and order inside WhatsApp;
  • many of your orders are cash on delivery, since COD confirmation and COD-to-prepaid flows come with every plan;
  • a team sells from one number and you want calls and live translation in the inbox;
  • your customers are in the WhatsApp-first markets Zoko names, and you handle at least 50 orders a month, the threshold Zoko itself gives for a clear return.

Look further if:

  • most of your customers have US numbers and campaigns are your goal;
  • you need SMS or RCS in the same tool;
  • your stack relies on Klaviyo, Gorgias, Zendesk or Recharge, which Zoko's pricing page and listing do not name (it offers an API and webhooks);
  • you want few lines on your bill.

What are the alternatives to Zoko?

We read these four on October 30, 2026. Kanal is first because it is the tool we recommend, and it is our product.

#ToolEntry price shownChannels namedWorth a look if
1KanalFrom €89 a monthWhatsApp; RCS and SMS from the Scale plan; iMessage coming soonYou want Shopify-triggered flows, campaigns and a team inbox, with native Klaviyo or Gorgias integrations

3WatiGrowth at $69 a monthWhatsApp, RCS and SMS in one inboxYou want RCS and SMS next to WhatsApp from the entry plan
4InteraktGrowth at $55 a month, on monthly billing, plus taxesWhatsApp, InstagramYou want catalogs and native payments in one flat plan

Prices as shown on Dondy's and Wati's Shopify App Store listings, Interakt's US pricing page and Kanal's pricing page. Message fees are extra on all four.

1. Kanal

Kanal turns WhatsApp into a sales channel for online stores and goes deepest on Shopify. It is used by 500+ brands, and plans start from €89 a month, with Meta's fees billed on top per delivered template message.

  • Automations start from a Shopify order created, an abandoned cart or a shipping status, from a WhatsApp keyword, or from an incoming webhook. Campaigns, segments and a team inbox sit next to them.
  • Channels are WhatsApp, with RCS and SMS included from the Scale plan and iMessage coming soon. Kanal does not send email.
  • The AI agent, on the Scale and Business plans, handles order tracking after checking the customer's email and order number. Refunds, discounts and cancellations always go to your team. Each AI reply is billed.
  • Native integrations include Crisp, Gorgias, Klaviyo, Loyoly, PrestaShop, Recharge, Splio and Zendesk.

Zoko goes further in places, and you should weigh them:

  • Kanal does not support the Meta catalog, WhatsApp Flows forms or the Conversions API, so customers do not browse and buy inside the chat. If that is the center of your plan, Zoko covers it and Kanal does not.
  • Kanal's AI agent does not take orders or collect payment, which Zoko's Sello does.
  • WhatsApp calling, voice notes and live translation are not on Kanal's feature list.

Kanal also does not sync the Shopify checkout consent box: WhatsApp opt-in comes from wa.me links and QR codes, a widget, a pop-up, an import with consent or an automation action. For the one-to-one view, see Kanal vs Zoko.

2. Dondy

Dondy's listing shows a free plan limited to a WhatsApp button, Power Automation at $79.99 a month with automated cart recovery, campaigns and an inbox, and Elite at $159.99 with an AI chatbot. Compare: Kanal vs Dondy.

3. Wati

Wati's listing shows Growth at $69 a month, Pro at $149 with an AI agent, and Business at $349, with automation and AI sold in credits on the upper plans. Compare: Kanal vs Wati.

4. Interakt

Interakt's US pricing page shows Growth at $55 a month and Advanced at $69 on monthly billing, plus taxes, with Enterprise on request. Compare: Kanal vs Interakt.

Zoko in short

  • The rating is high: 4.9 out of 5 from 466 Shopify App Store reviews, led by praise for support. Many reviews come early in the relationship, and only 9 come from US stores.
  • The price starts at $49.99 a month: add conversation fees on Starter, $5.99 per custom flow, $24.99 per AI agent plus usage, Meta's fees and your own OpenAI account.
  • Its focus is selling inside the chat: a catalog synced from Shopify, an AI agent that takes orders, and COD flows on every plan.
  • Check the fit: WhatsApp marketing templates do not reach US numbers on any tool, and the 7-day trial is the time to test flows and agents, since fees are non-refundable once a billing period starts.

How we built this review

On October 30, 2026, we read Zoko's pricing page, including the data its bill estimator loads, its home page, its Shopify App Store listing, all 47 pages of its Shopify reviews (we counted countries, dates and time of use ourselves), its mobile app listings, its terms, refund policy and AI terms, and its help articles on plans and AI pricing. Trustpilot, G2 and Capterra showed a block page that day. The one quote is verbatim; everything else from reviews is our summary, and we left out personal accusations we cannot check. The Shopify App Store has no link to a single review, so those links open the filtered reviews list. Kanal is our product.

Frequently asked questions

What is Zoko?

Zoko is a WhatsApp platform for Shopify brands, sold by Bourbon Science Inc. It combines campaigns, automated flows, a shared inbox, a WhatsApp catalog and paid AI agents on one number. Kanal, the WhatsApp app for online stores that we build, is a direct competitor: it starts from €89 a month and includes RCS and SMS from its Scale plan.

How much does Zoko cost?

On October 30, 2026, Zoko's pricing page showed Starter at $49.99 a month plus $0.015 per conversation, Plus at $79.99 with 5,000 conversations included, and Elite at $139.99 with 100,000 included. Its Shopify App Store listing also showed Max at $499.99. Custom flows cost $5.99 a month each, AI agents start at $24.99 a month each plus usage, Instagram costs $9.99 a month, and WhatsApp fees are paid directly to Meta.

Does Zoko have a free plan?

No. Zoko offers a 7-day free trial, then a paid plan from $49.99 a month. Its terms say a trial turns into a paid plan unless you cancel before it ends. Eleven pre-built flows come at no extra cost on every plan.

Is Zoko legit?

Yes. It has been on the Shopify App Store since December 8, 2020, and merchants rated it 4.9 out of 5 from 466 reviews on October 30, 2026. The complaints we found are about the way the bill adds up, the reliability of flows and AI, and moving a phone number to the WhatsApp API.

Does Zoko need an OpenAI account?

For its AI agents, yes, according to its help article on AI pricing: you connect your own OpenAI account, OpenAI bills the computing cost to you directly, and the agents stop working if that balance runs out. This cost comes on top of Zoko's own AI fees.

Can Zoko send WhatsApp marketing messages to US numbers?

No, and neither can any other provider, Kanal included. Meta's documentation says marketing templates are not delivered to WhatsApp users with US numbers for now. Order updates and replies to customers who write first are separate message categories.

What are the alternatives to Zoko?

This review looks at four, read on October 30, 2026: Kanal, our product, then Dondy, Wati and Interakt. They differ on channels, on how they bill and on whether customers can buy inside the chat. Our Kanal vs Zoko page compares the first two side by side.
