Shopify vs Wix: Plans, Payment Fees and Selling (2026)

Shopify vs Wix compared for US merchants: plan prices, card rates, product limits, sales channels, apps, support and how to migrate between the two platforms.
Table of contents (14)
Shopify is a commerce platform where every plan is a store, while Wix is a website builder with a free plan and four Premium plans, three of which accept payments. For a US merchant on October 7, 2026, selling starts at $29 a month on both when you pay for a year (Shopify Basic, Wix Core), with the same card rate of 2.9% plus 30 cents through each platform's own payment service; the differences are in how the plans are built, what they limit and which tools surround the store.
Each side of this comparison comes from the company's own pages, read on October 7, 2026: Shopify's pricing page, with the prices shown to US stores, and its Help Center, and Wix's plans page and Help Center. Wix states that prices and currency vary by location and that the final price appears on the purchase page: the figures here are the US dollar prices its plans page displayed that day.

What is the difference between Shopify and Wix?
Shopify sells a store. Every plan on its pricing page includes hosting, an SSL certificate, unlimited products, themes, Shopify's checkout, discount codes, gift cards and abandoned checkout recovery. What changes from Basic to Advanced is the number of staff accounts, the level of support, some shipping and international tools and the payment rates.
Wix sells a website that can become a store. Its Help Center describes Premium plans as upgrades to a site you can first build without paying: a custom domain, the removal of Wix branding, more storage and a marketing suite. It then sorts the plans by goal. Light is for a basic online presence. Core and Business are for merchants who plan to sell products or services, with eCommerce capabilities and payment processing. Business Elite is for high-traffic businesses that need custom functionality. Selling runs through Wix Stores, which Wix presents as its eCommerce platform, next to other business tools such as bookings, events and restaurants.
One detail follows from this: a Wix plan is not automatically a selling plan. Wix's Help Center notes that with the Light plan, you won't be able to accept payments through your site.
How much do Shopify and Wix cost?
Subscriptions
| Shopify plan | Monthly | Yearly (per month) | Wix plan | Yearly subscription (per month) | What Wix lists |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | $39 | $29 | Light | $17 | 2 GB storage, 2 collaborators, no payments |
| Grow | $105 | $79 | Core | $29 | 50 GB storage, 5 collaborators, basic eCommerce |
| Advanced | $399 | $299 | Business | $39 | 100 GB storage, 10 collaborators, standard eCommerce |
| Plus | From $2,300 | Not displayed | Business Elite | $159 | Unlimited storage, 100 collaborators, advanced eCommerce |
Sources: Shopify pricing page, US prices, and Wix plans page, as of October 7, 2026. Wix's page states that displayed prices are for yearly subscriptions, paid in full at the time of purchase, that other subscription periods are available and that prices do not include applicable taxes. It showed no monthly price, so we do not quote one.
Wix includes a free domain for one year with the yearly plans above. Its Help Center adds that each Premium plan is valid for one site only, that there is no trial of Premium plans and that a 14-day money-back guarantee applies. On Shopify, plans are generally non-refundable; the full rules are in our guide to Shopify pricing.
Fees on each sale
| Fee (US) | Shopify Payments | Wix Payments |

| Premium card or American Express | 3.5% + 30¢ (Basic), 3.3% + 30¢ (Grow), 3.1% + 30¢ (Advanced) for premium cards | 3.7% + 0.30 USD for American Express |
| PayPal | PayPal Wallet starting at 3.49% + 49¢ | 3.49% + 0.49 USD |

Two structural differences stand out. Shopify's card rate falls as the plan rises, while Wix's Help Center publishes one US rate. And Shopify adds a third-party transaction fee of 2%, 1% or 0.6%, depending on the plan, when you use a payment provider other than Shopify Payments. Wix's Help Center says that where Wix Payments isn't available you can accept payments using a third-party provider, and that other providers can be connected alongside it for methods such as ACH; the fees pages we read list Wix Payments rates only.
Example: the monthly bill at three store sizes
The three stores are fictional. The amounts use the prices above, yearly billing, each platform's own payment service and standard US cards other than American Express. They leave out the domain, apps, sales tax services and promotions.
| Store | Shopify | Wix |
|---|---|---|
| 40 orders of $50 a month | Basic: $29 + 40 × $1.75 = $99 | Core: $29 + 40 × $1.75 = $99 |
| 300 orders of $60 a month | Grow: $79 + 300 × $1.92 = $655 | Business: $39 + 300 × $2.04 = $651 |
| 1,000 orders of $80 a month | Advanced: $299 + 1,000 × $2.30 = $2,599 | Business: $39 + 1,000 × $2.62 = $2,659 |
Card fees: 2.9% of $50 plus 30¢ = $1.75. At $60: 2.7% plus 30¢ = $1.92 on Shopify Grow, 2.9% plus 30¢ = $2.04 on Wix. At $80: 2.5% plus 30¢ = $2.30 on Shopify Advanced, 2.9% plus 30¢ = $2.62 on Wix. With Business Elite at $159, the Wix total for the third store is $2,779.
The totals stay close at every size in this example, for opposite reasons: Shopify's subscription rises while its card rate falls, and Wix's subscription stays low while its card rate stays flat. Neither platform ties these plans to a sales ceiling on the pages we read, so the plan is your choice on both sides.
What does each plan limit?
- Products: Wix says you can offer up to 50,000 products in your online store. Shopify lists unlimited products, with 2,048 variants at most and three options per product.
- Team: Wix lists 5 collaborators on Core, 10 on Business and 100 on Business Elite. Shopify Basic includes no additional staff accounts, Grow 5 and Advanced 15.
- Storage: Wix plans carry a storage figure (50 GB, 100 GB, unlimited). Shopify lists unlimited web hosting on every plan.
- Sales tax: Wix's Business plan lists automated sales tax for 100 transactions per month. Shopify Tax carries no charge until a store reaches $100,000 in sales, then a 0.35% fee on taxed orders on Basic, Grow and Advanced, capped at $0.99 per order.
Where can you sell beyond your own site?
Wix's store overview lists the sales channels you can manage from its dashboard: eBay, Facebook, Instagram, Amazon, TikTok, Google Shopping and YouTube. It also lists point of sale from the Wix app, and dropshipping and print on demand through Modalyst, Spocket, Printful and Printify.
Shopify's pricing page includes selling on social media, on marketplaces and in AI chats in every plan. For connected marketplaces, the first 50 synced orders each month are free, then a 1% fee applies, capped at $99 a month. Our comparison of Shopify vs Amazon explains how that connection works for one marketplace.
How do apps compare?
The Shopify App Store lists over 16,000 apps, priced by each developer, with most charges on your Shopify bill. Our best Shopify apps comparisons sort them by category.
Wix's store overview invites merchants to add functionality with third-party apps from the Wix App Market, and to extend a store with its own development platform, Velo by Wix. Its plans page lists an advanced developer platform on Business Elite.
Before you choose, check that the tools you count on exist on the platform. One example from our side: Kanal, the WhatsApp marketing and sales app we build, is a Shopify app, installed from the Shopify App Store.
Who owns the customer data?
On both, you sell in your own name to your own customers.
- Shopify: its Terms of Service state that the services are not a marketplace, that any contract of sale is directly between you and the customer and that you are the seller or merchant of record.
- Wix: its Help Center explains how to export your contacts to back up the list or copy it to a different platform, up to 50,000 site contacts at once, in a regular, Google or Outlook CSV file. Only the site owner can export contacts.
What support does each offer?
Shopify lists 24/7 live chat support on Basic and Grow, enhanced live chat on Advanced and priority phone support on Plus.
Wix says all plans include 24/7 Wix Customer Care. Its contact page describes a chat available 24/7, with the option to ask for a Customer Care Expert by chat, phone or email. For English, it lists callbacks 24/7 and expert chat Monday to Friday, 2 AM to 6 PM EST. Wix does not charge for phone, chat or email support.
How do you move from one to the other?
From Wix to Shopify. Shopify's migration guide for Wix runs through 19 steps and several methods: manual copy and paste, CSV import, the Store Migration app, third-party apps and Shopify Partners. The Store Migration app is in early access, available only for certain stores and on desktop; it imports Wix products and customers, sets prices by location to the product's highest price and does not import the options of products that have more than 3.
From Shopify to Wix. Wix's migration guide relies on the Cart2Cart app, which migrates products, orders and coupons. Adding the app costs nothing, but Cart2Cart charges a fee for the migration, shown before you commit, and imports are limited to 1,000 products and 1,000 orders. Wix also mentions a do-it-yourself route: importing products through a CSV file.
In both directions, the design is rebuilt on the new platform, and a round of test orders before you switch the domain protects your sales.
How to choose between Shopify and Wix
Start from your situation.
- You want to build a site before paying anything: Wix has a Free plan, and its Premium plans add the domain and payments later. Shopify offers a short trial, then a paid plan.
- Your business mixes a store with bookings, events or services: Wix groups those tools in the same plans. On Shopify, they usually come from apps.
- The store is the whole business, with a growing team: Shopify's plans add staff accounts and lower card rates as you move up. Our Shopify review covers its strengths and limits.
- You have a very large catalog: check Wix's 50,000-product ceiling and Shopify's per-product variant limits against your data.
- You rely on a specific app: confirm it exists in the Shopify App Store or the Wix App Market first.

In short
On October 7, 2026, selling started at $29 a month with a yearly commitment on both Shopify (Basic) and Wix (Core), with the same published US card rate of 2.9% plus 30 cents. From there the models diverge: Shopify raises the subscription and lowers the rate, plan after plan, around a store and a large App Store; Wix keeps one published rate and builds the store into a website platform that also has a free plan, bookings and other business tools. Run your own order volume through both, check the limits that touch your catalog and your team, and reread both pricing pages before you subscribe.
