Summarize this article with an AI
Eight Instagram automation tools compared, with prices displayed on October 11, 2026, and what Instagram allows: the official API versus login bots.
Table of contents (17)
Key takeaways
- Instagram automation is allowed through Meta's official API on a professional account, and tools that log in with your password are what Instagram warns against.
- ManyChat leads the category with plans from $0 for 25 active contacts to $199 a month for 25,000, as displayed on October 11, 2026.
- Kanal, second in this list, automates Instagram comments, DMs and story replies for Shopify stores, in plans from $89 a month.
The Instagram automation tools most often compared in 2026 are ManyChat, the category leader, then Kanal for Shopify stores, LinkDM, Inrō, Chatfuel, CreatorFlow, Spur and SendPulse. All eight answer comments and DMs automatically, and they differ on price, on what they bill and on the channels they add to Instagram.
One distinction matters more than any feature: a tool that connects through Meta's official API is allowed, and a bot that logs in to your account with your password is what Instagram's own Help Center warns against. This comparison explains that line first, then reads each tool on its public pages, with the prices displayed on October 11, 2026. If you run a Shopify store, Kanal's Instagram automation is the entry built on your store data.

How we built this list
The tools are listed from their public pages (pricing page, product page, help center) read on October 11, 2026. We kept tools that present themselves as working through Meta's official channels, most of them with a Meta partner badge, and whose prices we could read that day. Each one is described in its vendor's own terms, and prices are quoted as displayed, without conversion. ManyChat comes first as the category leader. Kanal is our product, placed second.
What does Instagram allow and forbid?
"Instagram automation" covers two very different things.
Allowed: the official API, through Meta partners
Meta publishes an Instagram API that lets a professional account receive and send messages through an app. Its messaging documentation, updated September 28, 2026, and its page on private replies, updated June 30, 2026, describe what an app can do:
- Answer people who wrote first. A conversation begins only when an Instagram user sends a message to the account. The app then has a standard window, 24 hours for most actions, to reply.
- Send one private reply to a comment. One message to the person who commented on a post, Reel, story, Live or ad, within 7 days of the comment. A follow-up is possible only if the person responds.
- Hand over to a human. A reply written by a human agent can use a separate 7-day window, and Meta asks for an escalation path out of the automated experience.
- Say it is automated where the law requires it. Meta names California and Germany, and recommends the disclosure everywhere.
A tool on this API connects through Meta's or Instagram's own login screen, where you review the permissions you grant. It never needs your password typed into its interface.
Forbidden: bots that log in to your account
The other family asks for your Instagram username and password, then acts as if it were you: following, liking, commenting or sending DMs in bulk. Instagram's rules address it directly.
- The Terms of Use. Instagram's Terms of Use, effective January 1, 2025, state that you cannot access or collect information in an automated way without Instagram's express permission, and that you cannot solicit or collect other users' login credentials.
- The Help Center. The article Why you should not use apps that offer likes and followers says some apps offer likes or followers in exchange for your login details, that none of these services are affiliated with or endorsed by Instagram, and that with your login they can gain complete access to your account, including your messages.
- The consequences. The same article says Instagram may remove the likes and engagement these apps generated, that parts of the account may be limited, and that the account may be disabled or terminated.

Instagram's page on third-party apps gives the rule of thumb: be careful before giving an app access to your account, and never share your login information with an app you do not trust.
Allowed does not mean unlimited
An approved tool does not protect an account that pushes too hard. ManyChat's own Help Center explains that Meta's systems can flag an account for too many automated messages sent too quickly, or for public comment replies that look copied and pasted. The limits above apply to every tool in this list.
The 8 best Instagram automation tools
1. ManyChat, the category leader
ManyChat describes itself as a tool that "helps creators and social-first businesses handle engagement at scale", across Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, TikTok, Telegram, email and SMS, and states that it is an official Meta Business Partner. Its pricing page on October 11, 2026 showed five plans on monthly billing: Free at $0 for 25 active contacts a month, Essential at $17 for 250, Pro at $39 for 2,500, Business at $99 for 7,500 and Advanced at $199 for 25,000. Each active contact above the limit is billed as an overage. Our guide to ManyChat for Instagram explains its triggers, and our pricing guide details the grid.
2. Kanal, Instagram automation for Shopify stores
Kanal is our product: a Shopify app for WhatsApp and SMS marketing that also automates Instagram. Its Instagram automation page lists three blocks on one engine: comment-to-DM on posts and Reels, auto replies to DMs and story reactions, and AI answers to product questions from your Shopify catalog, with a buy link. Products, carts and orders are synced with no export.
Kanal runs through Meta's official Instagram messaging API on your professional account. Instagram and WhatsApp conversations share one inbox and one customer profile, and an engaged follower can join your WhatsApp list with a one-tap opt-in. Instagram automation is included in Kanal's plans, from $89 a month, with the AI agent on the Scale plan at $149 a month. There is no plan at $0. See the pricing page.
3. LinkDM, auto DMs for creators
LinkDM presents itself as an AutoDM platform for creators and says it has been a Meta Business Partner since 2021. It replies to comments on posts, Reels, ads, Lives and stories with a DM that carries your link, on Instagram and Facebook only.

4. Inrō, DM automation with an AI agent

5. Chatfuel, an AI chatbot platform on three Meta channels
Chatfuel calls itself "an AI chatbot platform for WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook" and displays the Official Meta Partner badge. Its plan lists automatic replies to post and Reels comments, lead qualification, bulk WhatsApp campaigns and CRM sync.

On its pricing page on October 11, 2026, the Business plan was US$20 a month on monthly billing, or US$18 a month billed yearly (US$216 a year), with US$20 of AI credits a month. The Agency S tier, for 3 companies, was US$90 a month billed yearly. Every plan starts with a trial.
6. CreatorFlow, comment-to-DM at a flat price
CreatorFlow sums itself up as "Comment to DM, automatically", for creators, coaches, service businesses and agencies, and states that it is a Meta Tech Provider using Instagram's official API. Its plans cover comment-to-DM, story reply automation and keyword triggers.
Its pricing page on October 11, 2026 showed Free at $0 (1 Instagram account, 500 automated DMs a month), Pro at $15 a month or $12 billed annually (2 accounts, 5,000 DMs per workspace a month) and Growth at $30 a month or $24 billed annually (5 accounts, 10,000 DMs per workspace, 5 team seats).
7. Spur, a multi-channel AI agent
Spur describes itself as "a multi-channel AI Agent for marketing and customer support" and displays the Meta Business Partner and Shopify Partner badges. One shared inbox covers WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook and live chat.
Its pricing page, read on October 11, 2026 with annual billing selected, showed AI Acquire at $12 a month ($144 a year) with Instagram automation and 3 automation flows, AI Start at $31 a month ($374 a year) with the Shopify integration, WhatsApp automation and 25 flows, AI Accelerate at $127 a month and AI Max at $399 a month.
8. SendPulse, chatbots inside a marketing suite
SendPulse offers Instagram chatbots with a no-code builder, next to its email, SMS and CRM products. Its Instagram chatbot page lists flows triggered by subscriptions and story mentions, and automated DMs and public replies to comments.
On its chatbot pricing page, in euros on October 11, 2026, the Basic plan was €0 with 3 chatbots, up to 500 subscribers and 10,000 messages a month. Pro for 500 subscribers was €11 a month, or €8.80 a month billed annually, and the price rises with the number of subscribers.
What can you automate on Instagram?
Four things, all inside the rules described above.
- Comments. A keyword under a post or Reel sends one DM with the link. This is comment-to-DM, explained in our setup guide.
- Incoming DMs. Keywords answer the questions that come back every day, and a flow branches on the reply.
- Story replies and mentions. A reaction to a story starts a conversation while the person is still watching.
- AI answers. An agent reads the question and answers from your content or your catalog, then hands over to a human when needed. Our guide to the Instagram AI chatbot explains the difference with keyword bots.
What stays out: following, liking and messaging strangers in bulk. Meta's messaging documentation does not provide for it, and the apps that promise it are the ones Instagram's Help Center describes.
How do you choose an Instagram automation tool?
- Check the connection first. Official Meta or Instagram login, permissions shown on Meta's screen, no password asked.
- Match the tool to your account. A creator who sends links needs comment-to-DM and volume. A store needs product answers and a link to carts and orders.
- Read the billing unit. Contacts (ManyChat, Inrō, SendPulse), DMs sent (LinkDM, CreatorFlow) or a flat plan (Kanal, Chatfuel, Spur). Price your busiest month, not your average.
- List the channels you will need in a year. If WhatsApp is on the roadmap, check on which plan it is included and how messages are billed.
- Test on one post before you move everything.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best Instagram automation tool?
ManyChat comes first in this comparison: it is the category leader, with comment, story and DM automations and plans from $0 on October 11, 2026. Kanal, our product, comes second, for Shopify stores that want Instagram automation on their catalog, carts and orders. LinkDM, Inrō, Chatfuel, CreatorFlow, Spur and SendPulse follow, each with its own billing model.
Is Instagram automation allowed?
Yes, when it runs through Meta's official Instagram API on a professional account. Meta documents what a tool can do: answer people who wrote first, within a 24-hour window, and send one private reply to a comment within 7 days. Instagram's Terms of Use forbid accessing or collecting information in an automated way without its express permission.
Can Instagram ban my account for using automation?
Instagram's Help Center says accounts that use apps offering likes and followers in exchange for login details may be limited, disabled or terminated, and that engagement generated this way may be removed. Tools on the official API are a different case, but Meta's systems can still restrict an account that sends too many automated messages too quickly.
What can you automate on Instagram?
With a tool on the official API: a DM to people who comment on a post or Reel, replies to incoming DMs by keyword or with AI, replies to story reactions and mentions, and handover to a human. Follows, likes and unsolicited DMs to strangers are not part of what Meta's messaging documentation describes.
Is there a free Instagram automation tool?
Several tools in this list displayed a plan at $0 or €0 on October 11, 2026: ManyChat (25 active contacts a month), LinkDM (1,000 DMs a month), CreatorFlow (500 automated DMs a month), Inrō (100 active contacts a month) and SendPulse (up to 500 subscribers). Each one limits volume or features on that plan.
Which Instagram automation tool works with Shopify?
Kanal is a Shopify app: products, carts and orders are synced, and its AI answers product questions from the catalog with a buy link. Spur lists a Shopify integration from its AI Start plan. For the other tools, check the vendor's integrations page before you choose.
