In the WhatsApp Business app, the catalog is filled in by hand and shown on the business profile. On the WhatsApp Business Platform, it is an inventory uploaded to Meta, through the Commerce API or Meta Commerce Manager, and connected to the WhatsApp Business account.
A business can then share products in several message formats: a catalog message that opens the full catalog, a single-product message, a multi-product message with up to 30 products organized in sections, or a product carousel. When the cart is enabled, customers add items and send the cart as an order; they can add up to 99 units of each item.
The business receives carts and product questions as webhook notifications and takes the order from there. Payment itself happens outside the catalog in most countries, usually through a link.
Kanal syncs a Shopify store's products, customers and orders, so WhatsApp messages and the AI chatbot work from the store's real data: see WhatsApp for Shopify.
