A popup app turns part of your traffic into contacts you can market to. It shows a form at the right moment, usually with an offer such as a discount, and passes the email address or phone number to the tool that follows up. Every app in this list does that. The differences are the formats (forms, spin-to-win wheels, quizzes, bars), the targeting and testing behind them, the contact each one captures, and how the price grows with your traffic.
Our pick is Kanal, for one specific job: growing a list you can reach on WhatsApp. Kanal is not a classic popup builder. It collects WhatsApp opt-ins through your checkout and popups, then puts that list to work with WhatsApp campaigns, cart reminders and automated welcome flows driven by your Shopify data. Below we compare it with nine popup apps that collect email addresses, most of them phone numbers for SMS too, plus Klaviyo and Omnisend, whose email platforms include sign-up forms. Our WhatsApp marketing page explains how the channel works for e-commerce brands.
How We Compared the 12 Apps
We read each app's Shopify App Store listing on September 11, 2026, including the full Pricing section, and compared the same points for all of them: the popup formats each listing names, whether it offers A/B testing, the contacts a popup can capture (email, SMS or WhatsApp), its integrations, and the price of its free and entry plans. For Privy, Klaviyo and Omnisend, we also read their help center pages on A/B testing forms, for Klaviyo its page on WhatsApp consent, and Shopify's Help Center for the Shopify Forms steps below. Ratings and review counts are the ones shown on each listing that day. We selected nine apps that lead with popups, all currently available on the App Store, plus Klaviyo and Omnisend, whose email platforms include popups and sign-up forms. Kanal is our own app and comes first. The other apps are ordered by number of Shopify reviews, with Klaviyo and Omnisend last because they are email platforms rather than dedicated popup apps. Plans and prices change often, so check the listing before you install.

What to Look for in a Shopify Popup App
A popup can grow your list or get in the way of the purchase. These points make the difference.
- The contact you want. Email is the default. SMS needs a phone number and SMS consent, and WhatsApp needs an opt-in for that channel. Pick the channel you will actually use to follow up, and check how the popup records consent. Our guide to WhatsApp opt-in rules covers the consent wording for a WhatsApp popup.
- Formats. A simple email form is enough to start. Spin-to-win wheels, quizzes, smart bars and embedded forms give you other ways to present the same offer.
- Timing and targeting. Look for triggers (delay, scroll, exit intent) and rules by page, device, traffic source or location, so each visitor sees an offer that fits the visit.
- A/B testing. Testing the offer, the headline or the format is how a popup improves over time. Nine of the eleven other tools in this list include it, and Alia and Wisepops go further with AI-run tests and control groups.
- Where the contacts go. Check that signups reach the tool that sends your follow-up (Klaviyo, Omnisend, Mailchimp or Shopify Email, for example), with the consent and the discount code attached.
- Pricing model. Plans grow with pageviews (OptiMonk, Privy, Wisepops), visitors (Poptin, Justuno, Alia), impressions (POWR), new subscribers (SendWILL), contacts (Klaviyo, Omnisend) or your Shopify plan (Pop Convert). Price your busiest month, not an average one.
- Speed and support. A popup loads on every page. Pop Convert cites a load time under 50 ms on its listing, and several apps, including Pop Convert, Alia and Omnisend, list 24/7 live chat support.
How to Create a Pop-up in Shopify
Shopify has its own option, the Shopify Forms app, which adds popup and inline forms to your store. Here is how to publish a popup with it, following Shopify's Help Center:
- Install Shopify Forms from the Shopify App Store.
- Turn on the Forms app embed: in your Shopify admin, go to Online Store, click Edit theme, open App embeds, activate the Forms toggle and click Save.
- Go to Apps > Forms, click Create form, select Popup form and give the form a name.
- Choose the display: Floating, with a position on your store, or Overlay, in the middle of the page.
- In the form settings, write the title and text, pick the fields and choose the marketing consent: email, SMS or WhatsApp, with the phone field required for SMS and WhatsApp consent.
- Set the teaser, the success message (which can show a discount code), the styling, the image and the behavior: the devices, the pages (for example only product or collection pages) and the trigger, on the first, second or third page view, immediately or after a delay, or when a desktop visitor is about to leave the page.
- Click Save, preview the form and click Turn form on. New forms stay inactive until you do.
Shopify Forms has limits: up to 25 forms per store, and no multi-step forms or conditional logic. Popup apps follow the same logic from their own editor and add formats, targeting rules and, on most of them, A/B tests. On WhatsApp, collecting consent is only half the job: WhatsApp marketing is allowed through the official WhatsApp Business API, to customers who opted in. Kanal runs on that API, collects WhatsApp opt-ins at checkout and on your site, and sends campaigns and automated flows to those contacts.
Email, SMS or WhatsApp: What Your Popup Captures
The contact a popup collects decides what you can do next.
| Criterion | Email popup | SMS popup | WhatsApp opt-in with Kanal |
|---|---|---|---|
| What the visitor gives | An email address | A phone number and SMS consent | A WhatsApp opt-in, at checkout or on your site |
| Where your messages land | The inbox | Text messages | WhatsApp, next to the customer's chats |
| What a message can show | Images, links and your branding | A short text and a link, or an image with MMS | Images and buttons in campaigns |
| Extra cost | Usually counted in the plan's contacts or sends | Credits or a fee per message, for example SMS from $0.007 on Omnisend Pro | Meta's WhatsApp fees, passed through at cost |
| After the signup | A welcome email flow | A welcome text | A WhatsApp welcome flow, then replies in a shared inbox |
Email remains the channel most popup apps are built for, and Klaviyo, Omnisend or Shopify Email keep it running. WhatsApp adds a conversation: a customer who replies to a campaign reaches your team in Kanal's shared inbox, next to their Shopify order history. Our guides to the best Shopify email marketing apps, the best Shopify SMS apps and the best WhatsApp apps for Shopify compare the tools behind each channel.
The 12 Best Shopify Popup Apps
#1 Kanal WhatsApp, WhatsApp opt-ins that grow a list you can message
Kanal is built around WhatsApp, not around popup design. It collects WhatsApp opt-ins through your checkout and popups, so the visitors who say yes join a list you can reach on WhatsApp, and its Shopify App Store listing includes opt-in pop-ups and customizable widgets. The list also grows through website widgets, QR codes and a one-tap back in stock opt-in on product pages. Consent is handled for you: opt-ins and opt-outs are managed automatically, and messages use approved templates. Then the list starts working. Automations triggered by Shopify events, signups included, welcome new subscribers, and the same contacts receive WhatsApp campaigns with images and buttons, cart reminders and order updates. Replies land in a shared inbox that shows each customer's Shopify order history. Popup templates, A/B tests and spin-to-win games are not among Kanal's listed features, so keep a popup builder from this list if you need them. Rated 5/5 on the Shopify App Store, Kanal starts at $89/month (Pro), with Scale at $149/month, WhatsApp fees at cost and no commitment.
#2 Pop Convert, unlimited popups and smart bars on a Shopify-plan price
Pop Convert is an all-in-one popup app: email and phone number capture forms, smart bars, rolling banners, spin wheels and social proof popups that blend into your Shopify theme. Popups can trigger on exit intent, geolocation or specific page URLs, you can A/B test several versions of a campaign, and more than 250 templates give you a starting point. The listing cites a load time under 50 ms and 24/7 live chat support, and the app works with Shopify Flow. Beyond capture, its feature list covers email campaigns and welcome, abandoned cart and win-back emails. The free plan covers 1,000 unique visitors and 50 subscribers a month. The Unlimited plan is priced by Shopify plan: $15/month on Basic, $29 on Grow, $79 on Advanced and $129 on Plus, for up to 5 stores, with unlimited visitors, popups and emails and a 90-day free trial. Rated 4.9/5 from 8,779 reviews and Built for Shopify, Pop Convert is worth a look if you want unlimited popups at a fixed monthly price.
#3 SendWILL, email and SMS popups with email marketing built in
SendWILL, by CWILL Inc. and previously known as EcomSend, pairs list-building popups with email marketing. You capture subscribers with email or SMS popups, exit-intent forms, newsletter signup forms and spin-the-wheel offers, often with a discount, then email them with campaigns from a drag-and-drop editor and with welcome, abandoned cart, win-back and post-purchase automations. Subscribers sync with Shopify Email, and the app works with Klaviyo, Mailchimp, SMSBump and Privy. A/B testing is not part of the listing. The free plan includes 30 new subscribers and 2,000 marketing emails a month, with unlimited popup views and stored contacts. Paid plans cost $11.90/month (Essential, 150 new subscribers and 5,000 emails), $29.90/month (Pro, 500 and 20,000) and $79.90/month (Premium, 2,000 and 60,000), each with a 14-day free trial, and usage charges may apply beyond the limits. Rated 4.9/5 from 7,753 reviews and Built for Shopify, SendWILL is worth a look if you want popups and email in one low-cost app.
#4 Privy, popups with email and SMS from one vendor
Privy grows your email and SMS lists with dozens of popup display options, then sends the emails and texts itself. The Pop Ups & Displays plan includes unlimited popups and displays, every popup type, advanced targeting, multi-step and mini quiz forms, templates and a sync with third-party tools, and Privy's help center shows how to A/B test a display to see which version captures the most signups. On the email side you get a drag-and-drop editor, a flow builder and revenue reporting, and SMS adds after-signup and cart saver texts. It works with Klaviyo, Mailchimp, Attentive, Postscript, Emotive and Smile.io. There is no free plan on the listing: Pop Ups & Displays starts at $24/month for up to 10,000 monthly pageviews, Email costs $30/month for up to 1,500 contacts, and Email and SMS costs $45/month with 1,250 SMS credits. Some charges may be billed outside your Shopify invoice. Rated 4.5/5 from 4,227 reviews, Privy is worth a look if you want popups, email and SMS in one platform.
#5 Justuno, AI popups with visitor identification and expert help
Justuno, listed as Pop-Ups & Spotlight by Justuno, presents itself as a list growth partner for retention marketers. Its AI popups capture email and SMS through quizzes, spin-to-win games, exit offers and banners, and AI Smart Timing shows each offer when a shopper is ready to act. Spotlight identifies anonymous visitors to feed your abandonment flows, and you can A/B test offers, design and messaging. Plans include flyouts, message bars, embedded promos, surveys and upsell or cross-sell offers, and a Justuno expert can take on strategy, design and optimization. It works with Klaviyo, Attentive, Postscript, Omnisend and Iterable. Pricing follows monthly unique visitors: $59/month for up to 10,000, $99 for 20,000 (with white glove onboarding), $199 for 50,000 and $299 for 100,000, each with a 14-day free trial, and larger plans are on Justuno's website. Rated 4.6/5 from 672 reviews, Justuno is worth a look if you want managed popups and visitor identification on higher traffic.
#6 OptiMonk, an AI popup builder with a free plan
OptiMonk is built around an AI wizard that creates on-brand popups in a few clicks, with a drag-and-drop editor when you want full control. Its feature list covers email, SMS, cart and sales popups, exit intent, spin-the-wheel and other games, surveys, quizzes and banners, with targeting, geolocation and segmentation. A/B testing compares headlines, offers or messages, the analytics focus on revenue rather than clicks or signups, and personalization shows different messages to different customers. It works with Klaviyo, Mailchimp, ActiveCampaign, Attentive, Postscript and Google Analytics 4. The free plan includes 10,000 pageviews a month on one domain, with all features, unlimited campaigns and unlimited users. Paid plans cost $29/month (Essential, 20,000 pageviews, unbranded), $99/month (Growth, 100,000) and $249/month (Premium, 500,000, with a key account manager), and yearly billing lowers the price. Rated 4.8/5 from 459 reviews, OptiMonk is worth a look if you want AI help to design popups and room to test them before you pay.
#7 POWR Popup, email popups at a low entry price
POWR Popup, by POWR.io, keeps things simple: discount offers, newsletter signups and email capture popups built from more than 250 templates and 20+ elements such as countdown timers, images, GIFs and custom calls to action. Popups can appear immediately, on scroll, after a delay, on exit intent or with a custom trigger, and campaign scheduling handles limited-time offers and product releases. Analytics track views, clicks and responses, and it works with Mailchimp, Klaviyo, Omnisend, Google Sheets and Zapier. The listing focuses on email capture and does not list A/B testing or SMS popups. The free plan includes 2,000 impressions and 25 submissions a month, with an autoresponder email and coupon codes. Starter costs $7.04/month (10,000 impressions), Pro $15.29/month (60,000 impressions, 1,000 submissions, advanced triggers and integrations) and Business $98.99/month (unlimited impressions, 10,000 emails and access to 60+ POWR apps). Rated 4.6/5 from 436 reviews, POWR is worth a look if you want an email popup at the lowest paid entry price in this list.
#8 Poptin, exit-intent and spin-the-wheel popups with CRM integrations
Poptin covers the classic list growth formats: exit intent, email, coupon and spin-the-wheel popups, plus announcement bars, sticky bars and embedded forms built in a no-code editor. SMS popups capture phone numbers, triggers and targeting rules decide who sees what, and A/B testing and analytics help you improve each form. Signups flow to Klaviyo, Mailchimp, Omnisend, HubSpot, ActiveCampaign or Zapier, and paid plans add autoresponder emails. The free plan includes 1,000 visitors a month (about 3,000 pageviews) on one domain, with unlimited popups, Poptin branding and no autoresponder. Basic costs $25/month (10,000 visitors, unbranded, 1,000 autoresponders), Pro $59/month (50,000 visitors, 4 domains) and Agency $119/month (150,000 visitors, unlimited domains and sub-accounts), with 20% off on yearly billing. Rated 4.9/5 from 337 reviews, Poptin is worth a look if you want a wide range of popup formats connected to your email or CRM tool.
#9 Alia, AI-optimized email and SMS popups
Alia is a popup builder that uses AI and machine learning trained on real merchant data to capture email and SMS subscribers. Popups adapt to each visitor in real time, quizzes collect zero-party data, and gamified popups add incentives. AI runs the A/B tests and keeps improving performance, targeting can use behavior, traffic source, location and Klaviyo user data, and reports track revenue, conversion rate and lifetime value. Every plan includes 24/7 live chat support and white-glove onboarding. It works with Klaviyo, Attentive, Postscript, Omnisend, Sendlane and Yotpo. There is no free plan: pricing follows monthly visitors, from $100/month for 20,000 to $200 for 50,000, $300 for 100,000 and $400 for 300,000, with a 14-day free trial and larger plans on Alia's website. Rated 4.6/5 from 114 reviews and Built for Shopify, Alia is worth a look if you want AI to run your popup testing.
#10 Wisepops, popups, notification feeds and web push with advanced testing
Wisepops is a popup builder and conversion platform. Beyond email popups, exit intent, discounts, spin-to-win wheels, cart recovery and upsell offers, it adds notification feeds, embedded widgets and web push notifications, with AI product recommendations set up in one click. A/B testing uses control groups, and more than 20 ready-made campaigns and 140+ templates cover list building, upsell, cart recovery and FOMO. The feature list includes SMS popups alongside email capture, and it works with Klaviyo, Omnisend, Mailchimp, Drip, Sendinblue and Zapier. Onboarding is personalized and support runs on live chat. The Shopify listing shows one plan: $299/month (or $2,990/year) for up to 500,000 pageviews a month, with unlimited popup and notification campaigns, web push, A/B testing and the Klaviyo integration, plus a 14-day free trial. Rated 4.9/5 from 70 reviews, Wisepops is worth a look if you run high traffic and want several on-site channels in one tool.
#11 Klaviyo, sign-up forms inside your email and SMS platform
Klaviyo is an email and SMS marketing platform rather than a dedicated popup app, but its Shopify listing includes pop-ups among its features and forms on the free plan, and its help center explains how to A/B test sign-up forms. Forms can also collect WhatsApp marketing consent once WhatsApp is set up in Klaviyo, and the SMS plan adds smart opt-in and multi-channel list growth. The main benefit is that signups land directly in the platform that sends your flows, with segments built on real-time Shopify data. Email is free up to 250 contacts and SMS up to 150 credits. Paid plans start at $15/month for SMS (up to 1,250 credits) and $20/month for email (251 to 500 contacts), and Klaviyo may bill some charges outside your Shopify invoice. Rated 4.7/5 from 3,290 reviews, Klaviyo is worth a look if it already runs your email. With Kanal's Klaviyo integration, available from the Scale plan, Klaviyo segments sync to Kanal so the same audiences can receive WhatsApp campaigns.
#12 Omnisend, popups and signup forms in an omnichannel email tool
Omnisend is an email, SMS and web push platform that grows your list with exit-intent popups, spin-to-win and other signup forms. A/B testing works on its popup, flyout and fullscreen forms, two versions at a time, and the Standard plan adds an AI form builder that creates a form from a description and removes Omnisend branding from emails and forms. Signups then enter pre-built welcome, abandoned cart and post-purchase workflows, and AI helps with product recommendations, subject lines and copy. It works with Gorgias, Recharge, Loox, Yotpo, Aftership and Justuno. The free plan covers up to 250 contacts, with 500 emails and 500 web push notifications a month, popups and signup forms, and 24/7 live support. Standard starts at $16/month (up to 500 contacts, 6,000 emails) and Pro at $59/month (up to 2,500 contacts, unlimited emails, SMS from $0.007 per message), with 30% off the first 3 months. Rated 4.7/5 from 3,181 reviews, Omnisend is worth a look if you want popups and email automation in one platform with a low entry price.
Shopify Popup App Pricing Compared (September 2026)
| App | Free plan | Entry price | Plans scale with | Notes on the listing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kanal WhatsApp | Demo on request | $89/month | Flat monthly plan | Meta's WhatsApp fees at cost |
| Pop Convert | Yes (1,000 visitors, 50 subscribers/month) | $15/month | Your Shopify plan ($15 to $129) | 90-day free trial, up to 5 stores |
| SendWILL | Yes (30 new subscribers/month) | $11.90/month | New subscribers and emails | 14-day free trial, usage charges above limits |
| Privy | No | $24/month | Pageviews (popups), contacts (email) | Some charges billed outside Shopify |
| Justuno | No | $59/month | Monthly unique visitors | 14-day free trial |
| OptiMonk | Yes (10,000 pageviews/month) | $29/month | Monthly pageviews | Lower price on yearly billing |
| POWR Popup | Yes (2,000 impressions/month) | $7.04/month | Impressions and submissions | Lower price on yearly billing |
| Poptin | Yes (1,000 visitors/month) | $25/month | Monthly visitors | 20% off on yearly billing |
| Alia | No | $100/month | Monthly visitors | 14-day free trial |
| Wisepops | No | $299/month | Monthly pageviews | 14-day free trial |
| Klaviyo | Yes (email up to 250 contacts) | $15/month (SMS), $20/month (email) | Contacts and SMS credits | Some charges billed outside Shopify |
| Omnisend | Yes (up to 250 contacts) | $16/month | Contacts | 30% off the first 3 months, SMS from $0.007/message |
Two patterns stand out. Most popup apps price on traffic (pageviews, visitors or impressions), so a sale that brings a traffic peak can push you into a higher tier, while email platforms price on contacts. Kanal works differently: a flat monthly plan from $89 (Scale at $149/month) plus Meta's WhatsApp fees at cost, with WhatsApp campaigns, abandoned cart recovery and the chat widget with inbox on the entry plan. Segments, the AI agent and the Klaviyo integration are not part of the entry plan.
Which Popup App Fits Your Store
Start from two questions: which channel will follow up with your new contacts, and how much traffic do you have? Then give each job to one tool, so a visitor never sees two popups at once.
- You want your opt-ins to grow a WhatsApp list. Kanal, with opt-ins at checkout and on your site, then campaigns and automated flows on WhatsApp.
- You want unlimited popups at a fixed price. Pop Convert, priced by Shopify plan, is worth a look.
- You want popups and email in one app. SendWILL, Privy and Omnisend cover both.
- You are starting on a small budget. POWR, SendWILL, Poptin and OptiMonk have free plans and low entry prices.
- You have high traffic and want testing and personalization. Justuno, Alia and Wisepops are worth a look.
- Klaviyo already runs your email. Its sign-up forms keep signups next to your flows, and Kanal adds WhatsApp through its Klaviyo integration.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best pop-up app for Shopify?
It depends on the contact you want to collect. If you want your popup to grow a list you can reach on WhatsApp, our pick is Kanal: it collects WhatsApp opt-ins through your checkout and popups, then uses them for WhatsApp campaigns, cart recovery and automated welcome flows, from $89/month. For a classic email and SMS popup, Pop Convert and SendWILL are the most reviewed apps in this list, OptiMonk, Poptin and POWR start with free plans, and Justuno, Alia and Wisepops focus on testing and personalization for higher traffic.
How much do popup apps cost?
Most popup apps have a free plan with a monthly cap, then paid plans priced by traffic or list size: from $7.04/month on POWR, $11.90 on SendWILL, $15 on Pop Convert, $24 on Privy, $25 on Poptin and $29 on OptiMonk. Tools built for larger traffic start higher: $59/month for Justuno, $100/month for Alia and $299/month for Wisepops on its Shopify listing. Kanal starts at $89/month plus WhatsApp fees passed through at cost, with WhatsApp campaigns and cart recovery on the same plan. Compare plans on Kanal pricing.
How do I create a pop-up in Shopify?
With Shopify's own Shopify Forms app: install it from the Shopify App Store, turn on the Forms app embed in your theme editor, then go to Apps > Forms, click Create form and select Popup form. Choose a floating or overlay display, set the fields, success message, styling and behavior (devices, pages and trigger), preview the form and click Turn form on. Popup apps work the same way from their own editor, with more formats, more targeting options and, on most of them, A/B tests. The full step list is in the How to Create a Pop-up in Shopify section above.
Are there free popup apps for Shopify?
Yes. Shopify Forms is free, and most popup apps have a free plan with a monthly cap: 10,000 pageviews on OptiMonk, 1,000 unique visitors and 50 subscribers on Pop Convert, 30 new subscribers on SendWILL, 1,000 visitors on Poptin and 2,000 impressions on POWR. Klaviyo and Omnisend include forms in their free plans, up to 250 contacts. Justuno, Alia and Wisepops offer a 14-day free trial instead, and Privy's listing starts at $24/month. A free plan is enough to test one offer on your main pages before you pay for traffic.
Can a Shopify popup collect WhatsApp opt-ins?
Yes. Kanal collects WhatsApp opt-ins through your checkout and popups, and its App Store listing includes opt-in pop-ups and customizable widgets. The contacts who opt in can then receive WhatsApp campaigns and automated flows. Shopify Forms can capture WhatsApp marketing consent when the form includes a phone field, and Klaviyo's sign-up forms can collect WhatsApp consent once WhatsApp is set up in Klaviyo. The other apps in this list capture email and SMS, or email only for POWR. See how Kanal uses the list on the WhatsApp marketing page.
Do Klaviyo and Omnisend include popups?
Yes. Klaviyo's Shopify listing includes pop-ups among its features and forms on its free plan, and its help center explains how to A/B test sign-up forms. Omnisend's listing includes exit-intent popups, spin-to-win and signup forms, and its A/B tests work on popup, flyout and fullscreen forms. A dedicated popup app is worth a look if you want more formats, such as quizzes, notification feeds or smart bars, or a price based on traffic rather than contacts.
Expert Recommendation
For Shopify stores that want their opt-ins to feed WhatsApp, we recommend Kanal WhatsApp. It collects WhatsApp opt-ins through your checkout and popups, handles consent, and turns the list into WhatsApp campaigns, cart reminders and welcome flows triggered by Shopify events, with replies in a shared inbox. For a classic email and SMS popup, Pop Convert and SendWILL are the most reviewed apps in this list, and OptiMonk and Poptin start with free plans. If Klaviyo or Omnisend already runs your email, test their built-in forms before you add another app. Start with one offer on your busiest pages, test one change at a time, then add a WhatsApp opt-in for the customers who prefer to hear from you there. See how it works on the WhatsApp marketing page, check Kanal pricing and book a demo.
